Underage Drinking

We have friends who find nothing wrong with allowing their 16 year olds to drink. They allow them to have beer pong parties with their friends (because they are doing it in their home) and allow them to try different types of wines (In their words "to make them a connoisseur of wine").

We find this unacceptable as if they are doing it at home, you know they are doing it elsewhere and these kids are able to drive now so I can not believe that none of them ever drive home drunk.

What does everyone think of this?

Any current research on that?

Bad parenting, that's all I have to say. Just like introducing a child to alcohol and allowing them to drink on a regular basis to have an appreciation for alcohol at 16

If you think your kids are going to get all the way through high school without somebody sneaking a pint of rum to pour into the cokes into a party, movie, school function or whatever....well, it's naive, to say the least.

Not every child finds themselves in that situation as much as you would like to think it is ok. I drank once, yes, once, in high school. A a friends house while the parents were working and we had one drink. Do I think it could never happen? Absolutely not but that does not mean every child is faced with this and maybe because my parents and the parents of my friends were more aware and acted like parents and not friends.

Where did you get the idea that I thought it was "okay" for kids to sneak and drink?

By saying I am naive if I think it wont happen.

Not everything that is likely to happen is "OK." You understand that, right?

So you did something when your 15/16 year old was aware of alcohol at a school event? You went to the school board?
