1.  When home alone do you like background noise?

I like some background noise usually.  I listen to audiobooks a lot, whether I'm home alone or not though.

2.  Do you go home for lunch, go out to eat or eat at work/

I usually bring my lunch to work, although I get takeout occasionally.

3. Where are you in your birth order?

I consider myself an oldest child.  I have a younger sister, who is 3.5 years younger than me.  I also have two older (10 and 13 years, I think) half brothers, but they didn't live with us growing up.

1.  Sometimes yes and sometimes no, depends on what I'm doing.  If I'm reading, then no.  If I'm cooking, then yes.

2.  I usually bring my lunch from home at eat at work, although sometimes we go out or order in as well.

3.  Youngest.

I seem to lack the ability to relegate music to the background. I listened to the same song 11 or 12 times this morning while doing some cleaning, each time focusing on a different bit: the drum track, the lyrics, the synth, the guitar, then I'll listen and just focus on the song in its entirety. It's like a compulsion. My current addiction is Chvrches. I listened to a song called "Lies" for two hours while on the treadmill this weekend.

I do that often when running or when in the car - really listen. Since I've been running, I've found a lot of old songs more interesting before - I'll hear little details in the backround that I hadn't really heard before, etc - because it's just me, the music and the road when I'm running.

However, i work and concentrate better with music going. For me, I think  it is because my mind is whirling at 95mph.  And if I'm trying to concentrate on work or a project, the rest of my mind is wandering off trying to think about other things and distracting me. But if I can keep the rest of my mind occupied with music, then I can concentrate on what I'm doing.    It's like a babysitter for my mind.

1.  When home alone do you like background noise? No, but I wear headphones with TV or musicwhen dh is home, because he is usually talking, loudly, on the phone.

2.  Do you go home for lunch, go out to eat or eat at work/ It varies. Today we went out, but we were there for business.

3. Where are you in your birth order? Oldest of 6, of which the youngest is still a teen.

1. It depends on what I'm doing. If I'm reading or doing homework, I prefer the quiet or just low-volume NPR. I like music or podcasts while doing mindless tasks such as housework.

I seem to lack the ability to relegate music to the background. I listened to the same song 11 or 12 times this morning while doing some cleaning, each time focusing on a different bit: the drum track, the lyrics, the synth, the guitar, then I'll listen and just focus on the song in its entirety. 2. My classes are back-to-back on school days, so no real lunch break. I do pack a light meal to eat during my commute so that I'm not tempted to stop and get a sandwich. Other than taking the kids to lunch on the odd half-day or the occasional winery lunch, I mostly just stay home.

3. Oldest of three.

Dh has similar too. He is the youngest of five, and there is a 9 year gap between him and the 4th child. The first four only have 4ish years between them (oldest are twins). His parents split when he was fairly young, so he really had a very "only child" like experience. There should have been a sixth child, but his mother had a late term miscarriage (due to chemical exposure).

Like you, Empty, for much of my childhood I was the youngest. My sister is three years older than I, then there is a 9 year gap, and then my two brothers, who are less than two years apart. So there is 14 years between oldest and youngest.. And 9 and 11 years between me and my brothers. We were a very different family before my brothers than after. It's an interesting dynamic.

Almost the same gap that we had.  14 years between by older sister and younger sister.   Since she was only 11 when the rest of us left the nest her experience was more of an only child.  My oldest nephew is only  7 years younger than her , so they have more of a cousin relationship than a aunt/nephew one.

1.  I like background noise unless I'm reading.  Either HGTV or a favorite movie--when sewing, definitely a movie.

2. At work.  We generally order out on Friday, but we still eat *at* work.  There's not too many places to go and eat at 3:30am :)

3. 3rd of 4 kids; youngest daughter.

I have music on at work all the time too. I've found I can't work without it. And I have music on in the car, and when I'm at the gym. Music is very important to me and listen to it almost all the time. Right now, it's Pandora - a mix of all my current stations. The current selection is "Up On the Roof" - James Taylor.

Are you the oldest DD?   I have noticed that if a 2nd child is a different sex than the 1st then they will in a lot of ways be like a 1st.  DH is a second but the 1st male so acts  a lot like a 1st born.
