I think we need a little fluff :)

1. Have you/Will you decorate(d) for the fall?

2. Have you started any Holiday shopping yet?

3. What is one food (or drink) that you look forward to when the weather gets cooler?

Bonus (it was a discussion at work yesterday and wondered others opinions):
4. If you were able to have an inheritance for your children (or maybe you have already experienced this with your own family), and you were able to live comfortably and was not relying on that money to survive, would you rather spend the money while you are alive and watch your children enjoy the money now or would you rather have it given to them when you died?

Well, we all know the end - but we don't know how we are going to get there.

If both end up in a nursing home requiring round the clock specialized care, that can cost quite a bit. MIL is currently in her 5th year of a similar situation. We are lucky enough that FIL has the foresight to prepare for that possibility and she can pay her bills for at least 5 more years. If both had the same care requirements there would not have been enough money - despite having saved in the 7 figures.

ITA with you. My mom has already planned all of that also.

I have yet to meet a competent financial planner that understands, let alone know the answer to, my questions. They are usually selling whatever is being promoted at their firm.

I am sure there are competent, well informed, financial planners out there - but I haven't found one in our price arena.

She has a long term plan. I don't know how much she has saved.

lol!!
I probably won't get much but I don't mind. I am saving my own money for retirement and I love that my mom is able to see me enjoy the money now and do things with her now.

I am a little baffled though with the responses as many posters have said they would spend some, if not all, of the money now while they are alive but have chided others for doing the same.

We have a financial planner -- two, actually -- but you are right. They are always calling us up with some stupid scheme to invest our liquid capital in. We take about one in ten of their suggestions.

FYI, if it is longterm care insurance, it doesn't cover everything.
