1. What is one thing that worries you right now?

2. Does the weather by you think it is fall/winter/spring or summer?

3. How is your calendar for October? Slow, medium, busy?

you post to this board from the bathroom? Ewww!

Nope and most days I don't even use the work bathroom. I go home and use my own.

Your employer doesn't allow you breaks during the day? That's nuts!

There is no need. I am paid to work and get things done. Not to bs for 30 mins here and there.

I don't think people who have always worked by the hour understand what it's like to work on salary. For me, there is no " leaving early" unless I leave right in the middle of a class or something. I am paid to research/publish; teach; and provide service to the department, school, and profession. As long as I am doing all three in a documentable fashion, nobody cares if it takes me twenty hours a week or sixty. And over the course of a year, I have some 20 he weeks and some 60 hour ones.

I have been on salary for almost 19 years.

The more you comment about how people are " taking advantage" by not being totally focused on work for a limited number of hours in a day, the more you are showing you don't understand the modern workplace, Morty!

Well, if you on salary, Morty, what is all this nonsense about working X numbers a day but getting paid for Y? Or "leaving early" because you didn't take lunch? Sure sounds like hourly work to me.

If "modern" is taking advantage, then no I do not understand. Do you think that I don't work with people who do this all the time? Who sit around and bs with either co-workers or on the phone. Who come in late, take longer lunches, who have one excuse after another for not coming in? Yep, I do. Yes, the majority of them are young women too.

The work place HAS changed and not for the better for many things. This is a perfect example.

Nope, I am on salary. That does not mean I can just do whatever I want. I am expected to be at my job, working.

Morty, I am sorry that your workplace has deteriorated. Why does your boss allow this to go on, if it is hurting the quality of your office output? If it isn't, why is it a problem? In our office, it is abundantly clear if a staff member is slacking, and because of the way the workload is divided up , it's clear who the slacker is if there is one. And eventually, our department chair deals with the non- performing employee. Some people do not understand that, whole it's considered OK to take ten minutes and okay WWF or go for a quick walk across campus if you are caught up, the same thing is not OK if you have thirty grade change requests waiting to be processed.

How so?

Why does your boss allow this to go on, if it is hurting the quality of your office output?

Where did I say that?

If it isn't, why is it a problem?

People taking advantage is always a problem, IMO.
