1. What is one thing that worries you right now?

2. Does the weather by you think it is fall/winter/spring or summer?

3. How is your calendar for October? Slow, medium, busy?

See? Your job/work is obviously very different than mine and Bord's.  It my department/field, it's very obvious when someone isn't doing their job.

How so?

"Nope, not really. We have a temp that seems to get everyone's work because they are all so overwhelmed and swamped with work. BAER (me to them lol). " Sounds like a management problem to me.

Morty, you were the one who said things had changed, but not for the better. Another for for that phenomenon is. "Deterioration." So now people "take advantage," but all this "taking advantage" really had no effect on the office performance? It's only a problem in your mind? ( PS: If you are not going to give straight answers but rather try to engage in a game of twenty questions, I'm not playing).

It has changed as a younger crowd has now entered. They have a different work ethic (not ALL but many, IME). Not saying that the older crowd can and are the same way but it seems younger (women) are looking to climb that ladder.

Not really as the work is there to prove them correct.

"See? Your job/work is obviously very different than mine and Bord's. It my department/field, it's very obvious when someone isn't doing their job. How so?" Because of the way staff work is divided up in my office, it is abundantly clear who is and who isn't being productive. One person is in charge of almost everything to do with undergraduate advising and scheduling. If the Spring Schedule isn't "live" and ready to go for pre-registration on the right date, or the approval paperwork for a new course hasn't processed, it's Jenny's fault. My secretary is in charge of graduate affairs, awards packages, and promotion/tenure files. The receptionist does the mail, room scheduling, equipment and building problems, and textbook orders. The fiscal person does fiscal stuff mostly but also is in charge of special events like our departmental picnics, holiday parties, etc. if something isn't done, the office manager knows exactly whom to blame.

Yes, but if these employees are slacking off by not doing their jobs and are leaving work undone, and your managers haven't noticed and corrected it, but instead are spending money on extra staff, it's a management problem.

Why do you monitor your "staff"?  Does your boss know you post here a lot?

Who is your boss..  A department dean or another support staff higher up?  Curious.  Your job isn't that big of a deal, And you have as much time to play online as morty does.
