What do you miss about life without kids

This question came up on a listserv I belong to, and the answers were fun. We all know that we love our kids beyond measure, but is there anything, large or small, that you miss about your life before becoming a mother and are maybe secretly looking forward to when the kids get bigger?

Mine is a house that stays clean and orderly for a bit longer than it does now, with two growing boys and their pets and their stuff and the mud that they track in. I know that there will come a time when my counters aren't cluttered with baseball gloves and homework assignments and dirty dishes that they "forgot" to rinse out, and I know that I will miss my kids terribly when they're grown and wish for the clutter back, but there are times now when I feel drowned in their clutter and I fantacize about a totally clean house, lol.

Being able to nap at the drop of a hat and not have to worry about the safety of my child OR the house itself....LOL.

I was flipping through a travel magazine at the doctor's office today. I miss romantic vacations.

Good luck with that. Maybe it happens when they move all their stuff out ;)

having a clean car, being able to walk into a dark room without fear of stepping on a hard plastic lego/barbie shoe/toy that will criple me, sleep, eating dinner after 7 pm, going to the bathroom alone, silence

The sleeping past 7 am made me laugh. When I was a kid, my mom would routinely have to come in and wake me up, even on the weekends. I missed saturday morning cartoons all the time because I slept too late. I guess I was a weird little kid - LOL.

1. Silence

2. Being called by my name instead of Ms. Kristi or Zak's Mommy

3. Life without Spongebob Squarepants and Fairly Oddparents

4. A clean house

5. Laundry without constant use of Shout

6. Knowing what my toddler ate by changing his diaper

7. Finding out that at 3 AM if your child vomits that you can not catch it in your hands

8. Showering alone

9. Going to the bathroom alone

10. Finishing a thought

"I do not want to be a princess! I want to be myself"

Sleep. Having sex whenever the mood strikes. The ability to just pick up and go whenever we have a good idea. Having a meal where the only food I cut is my own. Quiet.
