What do you remember?

I was working out and watching Oprah today. They had a person on talking about being a good eye witness. It was really interesting. One of the points she made was that we all remember we were when Kennedy died but we don't remember the day before or the day after. It got me thinking about what events I remember clearly.

So what events do you remember vividly-childhood memories or newsworthy ones.

I remember:

1. My parents telling me my dog died

2. The Challenger explosion

3. OK bombing

4. Princess Diana dying (don't ask me why)

5. 9/11

6. The latest space shuttle explosion

I know I will always remember when I found about DH's tumors. I still have not worn the outfit I was wearing that day. I can just remember standing in the hallway trying not to cry and watching people stream by. I wanted to shout at them that my DH had 4 brain tumors and they were not suppose to have a normal day. It was very surreal-like I was in a movie or a book.

Now I feel bad...I didn't include those memories. Mine were all depressing memories-does that say something about me??

I also remember the OK bombing (was in Germany on Spring Break from student teaching), Princess Diana's death (still in Germany), and 9/11.

Now that I'm thinking more about it. . .I remember them finding JFK Jr's plane as I was driving home from meeting my family in MO to pick up dd1 from

Now I feel bad that I made you think of the bad ones...

I wonder if Zak will remember 9/11 or if he was too young. He was in preschool when it happened. I can picture Alex reading about it and thinking I was born the next month.

My mother thinks it is strange that I remember Princess Diana's death. I think it was because it was shocking. She was so young and her kids were young. I was in Lexington visiting a friend for Labor Day Weekend. We heard it on the way to church. I can remember them showing the video of her meeting her sons after a vacation. They were on a boat and she was hugging them and was so excited. It made me cry all weekend.

the farthest back i remember is when i was three years old sitting at my moms feet while she changed lauren's diaper, and tying my shoes for the first time.

as far as "sad" or tragic things, i remember(like it was yesterday),

1. the day president kennedy was assasinated- i was sitting i my first grade classroom in cabimas, venezuela.

2. the day elvis died- i walked into work(had just turned 20yo) and someone said, did you hear elvis died, and i said, oh, thats too bad, and went to my desk to start work..

3. the day the challenger exploded- i was standing in my kitchen with my two oldest kids, who were 2 and 3, feeling sorry for myself, and my dad called and said, did you hear the challenger blew up? i said, you mean it took off? he said, yes and it blew up. ironically, the co-captain mike smith was married to my friend's cousin. so sad.

4. the day princess diana died, i cried and cried and cried. she and i shared a lot in common, money not being one of them!! LOL

5. the day of the ok bombing, dh and i and the kids were in pa at dh's grandma's house.

6. the day john kennedy jr died. we were in nj and dh's aunt came in and said, did you hear john f kennedy died, and i said, well, duh, about 35 years ago, and she said, no john jr. i could not get my mind around that one.

7. of course 9-11

8. on a happier note, my wedding day,

the day i got engaged(in 5 oclock traffic on old new brunswick rd).

the day each of my children were born, and holding each of them for the first time.

the day my ds1 GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL!!!!!! PRAISE THE LORD!!

:-( the day i left home for good, and moved to the other side of the planet! major culture shock.

k, enough

Man, I'm old. I was working my first job when I heard Elvis had died, and was several years out of college when the Challenger went down.

Thanks SO much for reminding me I'm a dinasaur, lol.
