What hours would you work

if you could decide totally on your personal preference? Not what hours the job requires or what works best for family.

I've changed my mind in the last few years.

I worked afternoons when I was single and newly married. I loved it, I loved having my days free. That was my prefered shift.

But now my prefered shift would be to go in early morning and get out early afternoon. I has the best of the afternoon shift, time free during the day but also leaves evenings free. That is what I have been working over the summer.

I would like to work 3 full days and have 2 days off. I have been dreaming about it this summer. I have to work 30 hours to keep benefits and I would love to work 7-5 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

I'd love to be able to go in by 6 and be out by 2:30....Then I would be able to pick up my son when he got out of school (when he's old enough to go) and spend the afternoons with him.

You misunderstood the question. What hours would be your personal preference, if you did not have family issues to deal with? If you could work according to your own personal time clock and preferences.

In early morning, out early afternoon. I did this through college: worked really early before classes, had classes only until early afternoon, then worked through the afternoon. I had my late afternoons & evenings free. (In the summers I worked a 6 - 2 shift when I wasn't nannying) It was great!

So I'd say a 6-2 or a 7-3 would be a major improvement over my current 9-5 (with my commute its more like 7:45 - 6:15). Wtih a 9 - 5, you don't have the mornings, you don't have the afternoons, and you're tired by the time evenings roll around...& the bugs are out in the summer early evenings/mornings, so you can't get yardwork done until the weekends. The other problem is that up here in the winters it gets dark REALLY EARLY, which makes getting energized at the end of the day even more difficult.

Yep. 6-2 or 7-3. Good question.
