We actually had two early astronauts from my area, both McDivitt and Al Worden, and so we had a small space center built on our community college campus. Every year without fail through elementary school my class went on a field trip there. By the time I saw McDivitt in person at age 9 or 10, all I could do was giggle about him wearing the 'going to the bathroom' underwear I'd seen on display so many times and I wondered if he still ate the freeze-dried ice cream every kid bought from the gift shop.
I've spent countless hours in casinos, but I never play slot machines.
My son hasn't met McDivitt that I know of, but he has met Worden twice.
