I don't have too many objections to the ifpdea of teaching people to gphelp each other and give each other a hand up when they need it. Surely that's a message given by all too few.

Where I stumble here isn't even so much in Osteen's lack of any educational background in preaching, but also his utter lack of interest in gaining one. Also, the author of this article tries to make a comparison between Osteen and Jesus which is pretty uch epic fail. While Jesus certain taught to the rank and file of the day with parables and stories to illustrate His point, the fact is, Jesus knew Judaic law inside and out, up one side and down the other. When he was as young as twelve, the Gospels teach us, He was discussing Scriptures and the law with rabbis at the temple. And even His parables illustrated key elements of Torah that His listeners were presumed to be familiar with--from studying them constantly. Jesus wasn't avoiding the Scriptures with His stories--He was giving them life and context.

Thus, for the author of your article to attempt that parallel is simply unconscionable--attempting to prejudice the reader into seeing Jesus where a salesman is standing.

This, quoted because it is well worth repeating.

Besides, Jesus was not all about making his listeners feel comfortable and empowered. The point of most of his stories was quite the opposite. he was all about exposing sin, smugness, and self-justifying behavior. They didn't crucify him because he made people feel better about themselves.

Again, this and quoted because again it's worth repeating.

MIL is on the finance committee at her church, she knows what people give and what financial impressions some have made at her church community too, it runs in the thousands and millions from some every single year.

i believe catholic kids attending catholic schools has dropped significantly since i attended them so those doors have opened wider to non-parish families. but i don't think that means we're sharing our church, do you think it would be ok if a muslim practice their own faith inside the doors of a roman catholic church?

Why wouldn't it be sharing?

We read the whole article including the part about the man who studies how evangelists SELL their message and "brand" themselves operate. About how Osteen isn't real big on theology and doctrine. About how he wants to leave people feeling better about themselves. This is not the Gospel. This is a self-help, feel-good program.

why are public schools separating special ed?

Because not everyone can be mainstreamed 100% of the time, same reason public schools separate gifted students from regular classrooms at times.

Our UU Church practiced its faith at a local Catholic Church when it was getting started.
