There's a joke going around in academic circles right now:

Pope Benedict has a dream where he arrives at the pearly gates and gets to meet Jesus face to face. Jesus tells him that it is not his time to die, but rather he has been granted the privilege of asking thre questions.

Pope Benedict says that his greatest concern for the church is the decline in vocations. "Telll me, Lord, will we ever ordain married men?"

Jesus smiles and tells him, "Yes, but not in your lifetime."

The Pope then asks: "I am troubled by the homosexuality issue. Can we ordain celibate gay men?"

Jesus says, "It will happen, but not in your lifetime."

Then the Pope says, "Well, what about women who say they have priestly vocations? Will the RCC ever ordain woemen?"

Jesus smiles sadly and answers, "Not in my lifetime."

The only difference between JO and others who call themselves pastors, but don't preach the gospel is only that JO's popularity. I have issues with any person who calls themselves a pastor, but doesn't actually preach the gospel.

He may hold a real bible in his hands, buyt he certainly doesn't seem to know, or even care what it actually says.

100 is a nice round number, is it safe to name one in the US? i don't doubt your statement there but i do question if they are still married in the sense that my husband and i are. the numbers i know aren't as great as yours but i'll tell you this, of the few priests i know who fall into the category of "married" they have something in common in that they nolonger are. a couple were former protestant ministers who had their marriages annuled before joiniing the priesthood, another is widowed. he answered the vocation after his wife died.

yes, i would like you to be more specific. thanks ever so much.
