We have done this before but it has been awhile. I think that it is fun to see how we were at so many different stages of life at the same time.

Where were you in 1999?

1989?

1979?

1969?

1959?

Where were you in 1999?

In 1999 I was 40. I was living in central TX. My three DDs were 16, 14 and 10. DH had retired from the Air Force the previous year and I had started working where I now work the previous fall.

1989?

I 1989 I was 30 and had my youngest DD (the older two were 6 and 4) DH was active duty Air Force and we were living in Oklahoma. I was a SAHM and volunteered about 8 hours per week at an organization on base.

1979?

In 1979 I was 20 and living in Michigan. I joined the Air Force that year (but did not report to basic training until Jan, 1980). I worked a convenience store.

1969?

In 1969 I was 10. The Detroit Tigers had won the World Series the previous year and I was a huge baseball fan. I was what was then referred to as a tom girl but I do not hear the expression mcuh any more. At that time girls were not allowed to play Little League so all of my baseball playing was games with the boys in the neighborhood (sometimes my brothers little league coach would let me practice with his team.

1959?

I was born that year.

Where were you in 1999?--Here. And not just "here" as in, Maryland, in this condo, and working in the printing industry. But HERE. On ivillage. On this board. (and also the one that was on the ParentsPlace side of ivillage, back when they still had both). John was just beginning his senior year of high school.

1989?--Here. But only in the Maryland/this condo sense. Was working as a secretary in a software engineering firm about 2 miles from here.

1979?--Moline, IL at the start of the year. I was a senior in high school. Graduated in June and joined the Army in July (well really, I'd joined in March on delayed entry, but I left for the Army in July). Did Basic Training at Fort Dix, NJ, and then went out to Monterey, CA in September for language training. I was about 1/3 of the way through the training course when the year ended. I met my ex 2 days after arriving in Monterey. Maybe one. Anyway, we've now known each other 30 years.

1969?--Joliet, IL. I was in second grade (and then 3rd for the last half)

1959?--Not born yet. I was born in December 1960.

Where were you in 1999?: I'd been teaching at my current job for two years and was an idealistic assistant professor. My kids were seven and three. We were just beginning to suspect that the older one might have ADHD.

1989: In grad school, taking my PhD comps. Getting ready to leave California behind for the big move to the midwest.

1979: Five years out of high school, with some junior college credits. In love with a wonderful man who turned out to be bad for me.

1969: Pouting about something. I am not sure what, but I was thirteen, so guaranteed to be in a bad mood about something. Living in southern California. Getting my first kiss and not liking it much.

1959: Becoming an older sister. I was three and my younger sister was born in April of that year. Living in Washington, DC and vaguely aware of the fact that there was a presidential election occurring.

1999? My sophomore year of college.

1989? Being bullied in 5th grade.

1979? Born this year.

1969? Not born yet. My parents were lovestruck teens, with my dad about to leave the island for college in the states and my mother counting the days until she could follow him.

1959? Not born yet. My parents were in elementary school.
