Our answer is: we hope to be financially able to pay for it all, but we will expect our children to give us some money for tuition each semester, plus be responsible for all of their spending money while in school.

We would only be able to fund a 2-year college education. After that, they can transfer to a 4-year institution while using their 2-year degree/certification to work and earn money for tuition.

We hope to fully fund it, but will expect them to take responsibility for other costs during that time period. however, despite aggressive savings, it is hard to predict whether our amount will outpace the rise in college costs. If that's the case, we will likely end up making a statement along the lines of "We can support a school up to the cost of $X per year. If you choose a school that costs more than that, you will need to pay those costs yourself"

That's our plan too. They can live at home as long as needed too if they go to a college here. We have at least 8-10 trade schools or
