You act like I think we should get those things so they can play them 24/7.

1) Pay off credit cards every month. If you can't pay it off at the end of the month, don't buy it. Cars (at first) and houses are the only thing to buy on credit. Anything else- save for it first. When a car is paid off- keep putting the car payment into a savings account- to have to buy the next one.
CC's are paid off every month.
We are saving the money now that we were using for my lease.

2) Put all bonuses, fifth paychecks straight into savings. Budget as if you don't get them. Don't spend them.
Right now our 5th paycheck goes for after-care and camp.

3) Never ever put something on layaway.
Never have but why?

4) Compost your non-animal garbage and use as "free" mulch for your yard. Do not cart away lawn clippings or leaves- mulch and use on yard. You can even compost your newspapers. Micing newspapaer with grass clippings makes a great mulch. If you take away nutrients, you have to put them back.
We have special rules in our town. We are not allowed to bag our grass anymore, it has to be mulched.

5) Do your own taxes with a PC program like Turbo tax. Very easy and doesn't take much time.
That is something I like to trust to the tax people. They are up to all the new rules and I don't have the time to research them.

6) Plant a vegetable garden. There are several planned ones available on the internet. Google Victory Garden- plans that were used during WWII are based on families of four. Most communities have community gardens to give you more space to plant.
That is something I would love to do but my dog eats everything!! I know there are ways around it but we just have not done it yet.

7) Average one load of wash each week for each person. If you can use cold water for all laundry. I can't do this- I need hot for at least my underwear. We average one hot load and three cold loads a week. Air dry clothes instead of using the dryer. In winter, it adds needs moisture to ones house. Keep hot water at no higher than 120'. If you caninstance the tankless water heaters.
We do that now. My electric bill can't go much lower so to me it is worth it to use the dryer.

8) Imagine what you would have to do if your salaries were cut by 10%. Then do it and bank the difference.
Can't do that yet, once our son is in school we can.

9) Only use your dishwasher if it is full- see if you can run it 5 times per week.
5 times per week??!! I only run it the most 3.

10) They tell people who are trying to lose weight, to ask themselves, "Am I eating this becasue I am bored or becasue I am hungry". Do the same for spending- "Am I buying this becasue I need it or want it?" If it is something you want. Don't buy it then, wait a week and see f you still want it.
I started doing this months ago and it has gotten much easier not to buy things.

It makes a difference on how much money you make and the price of things.

That is not the most basic plan. It includes free long distance, voice mail, caller id, and call waiting.

But even the plan she posted was less than $60.

I'm so not looking forward to that age.

Fortunately, the closest we've come so far is when dd told me the other day that all of her friends are taking piano lessons :)
