What do you mean by "older looking furniture?" If you go into any furniture store nowadays and look at a wooden chest of drawers, it is not going to look all that different from an older chest of drawers, except it might not be solid wood, it might not have the same style of hardware, it probably will be more cheaply made (such as being glued rather than dovetailed). Many of today's styles are just copies of older styles.

I know. It still doesn't make any sense. For example, no matter how cheaply your cable, internet, and phones are bundled, it is still cheaper not to have them than to have them.

And I'm sure there are no other good paying jobs available closer to home, no housing available closer to where they work, no public transportation available, and no smaller vehicle would possibly do. . .

Believe it or not in many places there IS no public transportation -- there is none in NH -- if for example I wanted to take a bus from my home in Manchester to a job in Portsmouth (40 miles away) I would have to go to BOSTON first -- yup. brilliant right?

Yes. We. Did.

I am into contemporary, modern furniture. I am not into the old-fashion styled furniture. I thought that was what you were speaking of.
I do know that furniture was made so much better years ago. My parents bedroom set is 40 years old and they bought a new set and use the older one in a spare bedroom.

Do you not watch TV? I think that is the problem with people who say, you can just cut out cable or TV altogether. That would be like me saying to someone who smokes, you can just quit and save the money. We enjoy TV and that is not something we would give up. Ask anyone who enjoys it. They most likely would not pick that to be the first thing to cut out.

Is the bed you bought for your son your idea of contemporary modern furniture?

I watch TV from time to time, but we don't have or need cable. The only one in our family who really watches TV is DH, and he watches maybe three hours a week. My problem is not that you like cable and pay for it, but that you complain about not being able to save money but won't give up of your luxuries in order to do so. Of course you can't buy whatever you want whenever you want and save money, particularly if you have expensive tastes or want all new everything.
