We don't even do alot of the things that people say to cut out though!!
We do our own lawn
No cleaning person
I go home to eat
We don't go out to eat, we will get a pizza or McDonald's for the kids but that money is taken from our own spending money (usually dh's because he has more from his ebay money).
No Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts regularly, etc. Very rarely I will get a White Hot Chocolate
I buy store brands of food every week and usually only buy things that are on sale
I buy clothes in stores where I have coupons or discounts and anything on sale.
We have gotten all new siding, roofing, windows, oil burner, hot water heater and appliances to lower our bills and it has worked
We use budget for electric and oil and do save money
We have a smaller home and it does not cost as much for heat and electricity
We get movies out of the library
We go to free places, the zoo, park
I am sure there is more but I can't remember right now!

I think there are a number of reasons to care about people (in general) using too much gas. But my point here is that if you are choosing to spend a ton of money on gas each month, don't bitch about gas prices. And if you choose to have drive a long way to work each day, don't bitch about about how long you spend in the car.

Who was bitching about gas prices or long drives to work?

The only bitch I had was that you think it's funny when people have to

I agree that many choose longer commutes, but often, that choice is b/c it is better than the alternative choice.

While we are fortunate that dh doesn't have a long commute, he does have to drive to his job as there is no public transportation, no sidewalks, no bike lanes, etc from where we live to his office.

$400/month is not uncommon at all to spend on gas. My dh probably spends about $320 and my gf's dh who drives closer to work spends $480/month. It all depends on the size of your car, the cyclinders, in town or highway and how much you drive.

I agree partially with you. Some people are like that & keep a car a long time. But many people always have a fairly new car and don't keep them a long time. Since Felicia has known her awhile, maybe she knows the nanny trades in every couple years.

The reason people go for the longer commute is that they are making more money and it is worth it for them to spend a little bit extra on the gas.
