I did not say it was easy. Are you arguing with my opinion that I think more Americans will decide that the inconveniences of carpooling will look better when the price of gas goes even higher than it is now?

I would NEVER not have Christmas for my children. In my opinion, Christmas IS for children. We are very fortunate that we get very good bonuses for Christmas and are able to buy things for everyone with it. If one of us did not, I would definately have a Christmas fund. My parnets always did that and it worked great for them. We did it for one year but then our bills went up and there was no extra money for it.

What "occasional" cruise? This is the 1st one for my kids and my son is 4 and has NEVER been on any type of vacation at all. I have explained over and over about the cruise money also.

I am sure some people might consider it, but it will not work for many people and we are 2 of them and I am sure there are thousands more like us out there.

I don't believe you answered my question about posting that cable has always been in your budget like food & whether the extra "not" was a typo.

You can exchange cruise with vacation. You did spend several posts yesterday defending why you are spending money on vacation. I remembered that you had been on a cruise before.

I didn't say you couldn't afford the furniture. You are the one who said that you couldn't save money. My point all along is that you can't afford the furniture IF you also want to save more money. It is perfectly clear that you don't WANT to save more money.

I don't know what MOST people think. I don't think I can afford something discretionary unless I have all my bills paid and other financial goals met. Then I get to think about spending my extra money on extras.

I wouldn't even CONSIDER an arrangement like yours, with the zero percent financing thing unless I already had the money in the bank and could pay it off at any time if something happened.

So are you arguing with my opinion, because you believe that no matter how high gas went up (and if your income didn't go up) you would not change your driving ways? If you don't you might have to give up something else. I'm talking about if gas goes up to $7.00 a gallon like Laura has to pay. I should say when not if.

Yes, it was a typo.

Yes, we did go on a cruise before, in 2006 that we won and spend almost NO money to go on.

Then you are much different than me. We have been doing the 0% financing for over 14 years and love it. We have never had a problem saving the money and paying it off on time and will continue to do this with other things in the future that may arise.
