Of course I would not starve to have cable first. It is a bill though I know I will always have as long as we are able to have a roof over our heads, food in our bellies and clothes on our backs.

No it doesn't depend on how much the person was asking for gas. If it wasn't done equitably & you weren't saving money, then that would not compel more people in this country to carpool. That was my whole point, that at some point, the gas will become too much for people's budget & more people will be willing to sacrifice convenience and use mass transportation or carpool. You can be negative and disagree with me. But I do believe this. You can still say that even if the gas is $50 a gallon, you will still drive yourself to & from work . . . keep believing that if you wish. I think it's a ridiculous argument & I think you are wrong.

So what? You made the incorrect claim that someone who "likes TV" would never choose to relinquish cable for the sake of having savings. You are wrong. I'm a HUGE TV addict. When I had to make a choice between cable TV and making monthly savings, there was no question which one I'd choose. The cable company got a call and I canceled service. I would not HESITATE to make the same choice again.

There's no WAY I would choose cable service over savings; it's a stupid, ridiculously foolish choice. You act like the idea of bundling services is a unique one. It's not. I've done it. So what? If bundling didn't result in money FOR SAVINGS, bundling wouldn't be enough of a cut and I'd cancel service until I could afford to save AND have cable again.

It's not that it's Lois The TV Hater Of the Universe doesn't "get" your obsessive need for cable; it's that lots of us, TV addicts included, don't understand how you can pay for ANY non-necessity before your family is provided for and Savings is part of providing for your family. WAY before cable is (or should be).

I don't care how much money you 'saved" by bundling your cable services, so you can save that particular dead/smelly redherring for someone else. If it didn't result in your being able to save, it served no purpose.

We do save but in Lois' opinion, I should cut cable because we don't have 6 months in liquid assets. Isn't the reason you save 3, 6 or whatever monthly amount of savings is in case you lose your job? That is something I am not worried about with my job so I have chosen the cable over extra savings as if I leave my job, I will have the equivalent to about a years worth of salary. I also have 401K, IRA and Life Insurance. I personally don't think we do that bad for the amount of money we make to the COL in our area.

No, Lois, and just about everyone else here has said that IF, let me say it again, IF, IF, IF, IF, you want to save more, you CAN cut cable.
