I think that there is a problem in that people are completely willing to live and work in different communities, rather than working to make the community they live in a place they can work or the community they work in a place they can live.

there are a lot of medium to large sized towns that have good job prospects and do not require commuting.

But if EVERYONE chose to live in those places, then tehy would turn into big cities, and as is the way with things, housing costs would go up.

Are there *a lot* of people who can afford to pack up and meve a couple thousand miles in order to find these place?

I don't have a lot of time to explain my self over and over today, but I will say that moving to where the jobs were was not an option for our family, we couldn't afford to move.

but for the cost of 400.00 a month in gas,she could be paying a little more for rent or mortgage and a quarter of that in gas.

If you have no choice, you have no choice. But I maintain that most people do have choices and choose a long commute. I don't particularly care that someone might choose to do this (other than the impact on the environment), but I do think that paying that much for gas is ridiculous. Obviously, many people disagree with me, but they may think it is ridiculous for me to pay significantly more for housing so I don't have a long commute.

And I think rarely are people choosing between a good paying job and working at McDonald's.

It is the same way if someone says to me that they smoke and don't have any savings (which is not true of us). I have learned the only people who have ever said to cut cable out (not just here) were people who do NOT watch TV at all or limited.
