Purchasing any channels (even "basic" ones that are freely available if you have the reception) from the cable company. My parents can get more channels than we have through the cable company just by using an antenna.

To me, the definition of cable is any television service that comes through a cable. Not via the airwaves or not via satellite.

My fil used to do that but you can only get 2-13, if you are lucky to get them all with an antenna. You can NOT get anything with Cablevision anymore without a special digital box.

Because you could have stayed home and saved that money.

Our basic cable does not include any channels like HBO, Skinamax, Showtime etc...

My suggestion was to eat less and/or lower quality food to cut your grocery bill. No response from you.

How about you or your DH getting a better paying job?

No one has tried to give you an exhaustive list of what you could do to save money.

??? And this is relevant how? Whether you have a special digital box or no special digital box, whether you are purchasing basic (13 channel) or super premium ultimate (500 channel) cable, it's still cable. And you can always stick an antenna up on your roof to see if you get public access channels (ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS)-- although reception is nonexistent in some areas, which is why some people purchase just public access channels from their cable company.

That's called standard cable here. Basic cable is only channels 2-13 (ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, FOX).
