IT'S STILL FRICKING IRRELEVANT.

ANYONE THAT IS SPENDING ANY MONEY ON ANY NON-NECESSITY COULD SAVE MORE BY NOT BUYING THAT NON-NECESSITY. PERIOD. FACT. UNDEBATEABLE.

Can I ask what state you live in? It is MUCH cheaper in many states that you can save alot more WHILE spending money in other places, like cable.

Well, I won't tell you what state I live in, but I do live in one of the top taxed states nin the country.

I know alot of people can cut in places they don't want to but the point is that a $50,000 salary in GA goes a longer way than NY. Alot of places also do not have state taxes that help their paycheck.

I just claimed more dependents at my job and have gotten more money back per week. This has helped us save for my dh's retirement as he does not have any retirement plan at work. Every little helps and if our gas was as low as GA's, we would also have that extra money.

The only thing that IS cheaper here in NY is our water-lol!!!

So what?

Stop spending money on non-necessities, save more money.

Arguably true, but completely irrelevant to this particular debate.

I know it is true but you are not getting that if your taxes are less than someone else making the same amount, they are able to save more. I have explained that if I cut out my cable, I would save $8/month. That is it, $8. While I understand that may mean alot to some people, in my mind, to lose the cable it would not be worth it to me.

I do see how lower col places have gone up as when I was in FL this weekend, the gas was more than NY and the prices of the food was the same as NY. When you make alot less money than NY, I am sure it is harder for many people to save also. 14 years ago, everything was cheaper. NC is going to turn out like this too as everyone is moving there for the lower prices of homes and the lower col.

Why? Everyone is not from NY on this board? Many people are from lower col and probably make what we are making.

Ok..first it was because of daycare expenses that you couldn't save money.

Now it's because you live in a high col area.

Whatever.

It is my daycare/after-care cost as it takes a chunk of our money per week. BUT....if I was making what I am making in a lower col area, there would be extra money for saving. I choose to live where I live, yes and will benefit next year when my son goes to school but it doesn't make up for the fact that someone making what I am making in a lower col, will be able to save more. I explained that giving up cable would give us $8 more a month. That would not make that much of a difference in the long run in our savings.
