It still comes down to the $255/week on daycare and aftercare (or more sometimes) is the REAL reason we can not save.

You can say it as often as you want.

No, not really. I just explained before that when my lease was up, I saved that money instead of finding something to buy with it. I just increased my dependents in my check and are saving that amount for my dh's retirement. When my ds goes to school we are going to put more in savings, 401K, IRA and the kids college. I also want to put more into my home budget in case something breaks down, more into medical in case more medical bills come up, more into clothes and activities/entertainment (as everyone always needs some type of clothing and there is always something coming up with the kids and family. I did not budget any more money in our spending, "free" money per week or things like that. If that doesn't sound like we are trying to save, then I don't know what does.

I am absolutely not trying to change the topic. It all ties together.

In the realm of things (saying that you "should" have 6 months of savings before having cable and spending money elsewhere) $8/month won't do much.

Stop spending on non-necessities = saving more money.

ITA with you. I would never want anyone to have to choose over any of those things. We really are all very fortunate to NOT have to choose every month.

Here's what sounds like "trying to save." Quit buying stuff you don't have the money to pay for.
