Exactly. It makes no sense to "blame" the lack of savings on a need when there are plenty of wants to blame it on.

But daycare is an absolute necessity. It's like saying I would be able to save more money if I didn't have to eat. Why blame the lack of savings on a necessity when you spend money on tons of things that aren't necessities?

No, it's not. Because daycare is a necessity and about 10 things you have listed that you have purchased are not necessities. The reason you can't save is that you think it's more important to buy that stuff than it is to save that money. Which is perfectly ok. But it's not the daycare.

The amount (%) that people save has little to do with how much they make. And local salaries often match the COL increases or decreases. You may live cheaper in Atlanta but your job wouldn't pay the same. (In general)

I don't know of anyone who tips garbage men. Mailmen and women (USPS) are technically not allowed to receive tips.

That's weird. Our phone is like $20/month. Free local calls. No long distance (we use calling cards for that.) No caller id. No call waiting. Basically just a phone line.
