so you got divorced and to celebrate the event you have a trash the dress party, that includes spilling wine, dirt, whatever it takes to trash the wedding gown.

interesting that you still have your dress, what are you saving it for? would you let your daughter wear it if she wanted to on her wedding day, if she got married?

Some people get really superstitious about stuff like that.

I have an aunt who was a seamstress; she made her own wedding dress in either the late 40s or the early 50s, I forget which, then she made christening dresses for all of her children.

I'm not saving it; I'm just too unmotivated/lazy to get rid of it. I doubt dd would ever fit in it, as she's such a teeny tiny thing, and it's sooooo not her style, but if she wanted to wear it, she could.

I still have my wedding ring from that marriage too; it's not worth enough to pawn, and i'm too lazy to look at one of the buy-your-gold places. I've told dd she can have it when/if she wants it.

Have you seen the movie The Wedding Dress? It's a made-for-tv movie, but it's pretty good and has a pretty good cast. It follows a particular wedding dress through 3-4 couples and how the dress affected their relationships and lives.

a friend of mine's daughter's first communion dress was made by her mother, it was gorgeous. that led me to ask if her mom made her wedding dress too and the answer was an obvious yes! my mother passed down her wedding gown to my sister who was the only one of us tiny enough to fit into it, i hope to get the opportunity to pass down my own wedding dress to one of my girls or parts of it to both of them.

My mom made her wedding dress, hand beaded and everything. I would have loved to have worn it, but it burned in a house fire a couple years before I was born.
