Do you get along with you mil? Just wondering if she does this for spite or she just feels the kids would like her gifts?

If it is something that I will not allow in our home it either gets returned to walmart or it gets donated or tossed.

At least you are able to return yours. My mil gets her gifts from the dollar store or a discount store where she lives and I can't do that. I could have gotten something really nice with all the gloves and scarves I have gotten for so many years-lol!!

You know, you could take all those to those coat drives that they have every year.

I felt very used by United Way when there was that scandal a few years back where somebody at the top level was embezzling. These days I look more favorably on small scale local charities. Embezzelment is a possibility at any organization. But there is something about the very small ones (local womens' shelter for example) that make it seem like those are more labor of love for passionate people (who hopefully are passionate enough about their cause not to embezzle) and so more money goes to the cause itself.

Hey, I am happy that she remembers to get the kids things even if they are late but compared to my sil's kids, mine really get slighted for everything. They get their gifts late all the time and she spends pratically nothing on them (not that money is important but you should not do for one and not the other). Years ago my dh asked my neice what she got for Christmas from grandma and she said a VCR (many years ago-lol!). My kids have NEVER gotten gifts that large and it seems what she sends is just a second thought to her to give them something. We actually stopped sending to the rest of the family as we sent to the neices, nephews and cousins for 7 years and when my daughter were born, she got something that first year and never since.
