Clothes-we have a clothes budget. I don't need my mother to buy one thing for my kids to be clothed properly all year long but she enjoys to do so.
Vacation-we have not had a family vacation in almost 6 years (my son never). The only reason she was able to do that now is that her and my dad saved money for many years for retirement and my dad did not live to get to enjoy that money.
Home Repairs-we got updates, not repairs and anything that needs to fixed, we pay for. We only got to do this as her got extra money.
These things have only happened within the past 3 years. My dh and I have been together for 19 years and married for over 14.

First of all, she COULD pay her bills.

Secondly, if tithing is important to her, then it is a good thing for her.

tithing in our home, too is as much of a necessity as paying our mortgage, taxes, food on the table are.............not having money in our budget for tithing is only likely to happen when there's not enough money for those other necessities.

The average American gains between 7 and 1o pounds during the holidays.

Per capita average credit card debt is in the thousands in the US.

I don't disagree that a lot of the US is like you, but I don't agree it's good to spend all the money you get in a Christmas bonus each year.
