Oh, that doesn't count, Ducky. It's only a pile-on if it happens to people you basically agree with. If it happens to people with whom you disagree, it's a natural consequence of being wrong.

This is off-topic for the thread, but I hope it's OK if I ask about tithing, as I don't really understand where the money goes.

We aren't currently regular churchgoers, but we have been actively seeking a church that we can enjoy as a family (husband was raised Baptist, me Catholic).

You are STILL not getting it. To much of the Christian world, the whole Santa thing is just a distraction from what Christmas is REALLY about, so much so that people like the Mennonites have a "Buy nothing" Christmas movement -- they celebrate Christmas, but only exchange small, handmade tokens of love and appreciation to those who matter most to them. To many Christians, Christmas is REALLY about remembering the Incarnation, the reason Jesus came into the world, and dedicating themselves to the unfinished work of the Gospel. The "stuff" and the emphasis on "getting" is detrimental to why we celebrate the season in the first place.

Why do you think her kids would have needed or appreciated 25 dollars worth of presents as opposed to ten or fifteen dollars of presents? What's the big difference there? Both amounts will buy token gifts, and that's what we are talking here. Token gifts. Kids don't really know the difference between fifteen dollars worth of stuff and twenty-five dollars worth of stuff.

Sure we do. We have friends on all parts of the Christmas celebrating spectrum. We see it all. Doesn't mean we like it all.
