Christmas at my house is very similar to yours.

If we can afford to get them gifts, we do and I see nothing wrong with that. I am not sacrificing anything to buy these gifts and our list has actually gotten less and less each year. We have been very fortunate to be able to give gifts to our family and friends, together as a couple for almost 20 years. I will not stop anytime soon.

I have explained that I do not want to cut down and even if we didn't have as much people, we would still spend it all on our family and friends. We have cut down people in the past for certain reasons and we then have given more to other people (service people).

All very good points.

It's also kind of ironic that when ducky was saying that they had a very simple Christmas due to finances, Hazel was giving her such a hard time about it.

I am just picking up a very big "Hazel spends too much on gifts and focuses too much on money" vibe.

As a family we know the real reason of Christmas but we also enjoy the gift giving. I don't think you have to do one or the other. We are just more generous spending our money on other people and not banking it for ourselves.
