This is what I have been trying to explain, especially with my mom. Why save it until you are gone and not see your family, or friends in your situation, enjoy it. Money is money, it comes and goes but your family and friends are more important. While it is important, you come into life without it and leave without it.

One great example is when my dad was dying. His dr. told my mom to have my sister and myself come to see him because he probably wouldn't see us again. She had to make plane reservations in a days time for 7 people and it cost her an arm and a leg and a hip and elbow-lol!! She would not allow us to pay her and my dad was fine with it that he paid for us to come and see him. It was MONEY. I am SOOOO glad that I was able to be there with him and would pay her back for a lifetime if she needed it.

Kitchenaide Mixers are the best. I don't use mine as often as I should though as I forget all the good things I can use it for!

It would be incredibly gauche for Hazeleyes to spend the money in ways her mother didn't intend.

Why? These presents are from grandma, not Santa or mom and dad. To me it is all separate just like if she was going to send them gifts. They are not getting a bunch of junk as I said before they get mostly clothes from grandma.

Grandma already does college savings and life insurance for them.

I do limit as we make a budget of how much to spend on them too for Christmas. They do get the most though as they are our children and they can get things without being spoiled. Don't know if you realize that.

Oh for crying out loud....

I know that if I gave my children money for my grandchildren for Christmas or anything else because they could not afford it, I wouldn't want them putting it in savings when it was for a specific reason.

So if one's mother clarifies the money is to be spent on Christmas gifts for the children, YOU would instead spend the money on something for YOU and the kids to do and something YOU benefit from too?

Um....ick.

I thought the money was intended for stocking stuffers because you could not afford to get the kids gifts that year?

Just know from my mom that anything she gives us is not intended for us to pay bills or to save. That is OUR responsibility.

I have to agree with you. My mom sends Christmas money to be split 4 ways. I would not take my kids part of the money for myself. Why people have such a problem giving their kids things is beyond me. Kids do not have to be spoiled to get many things for different occasions. If they are raised properly, they do not become spoiled.
