My mil always used cash for everything. I do know that she was getting child support for my dh until he was 21 yrs. old. He was in the army at 16 and she never gave him money to come home, I met him at 19 and he was paying her rent, buying his own food, clothes, etc. Where was that money going?

If the children do not looked cared for, you know that the money is not going for them.

Well that is the wrong reason then. I am very fortunate of all that I have and will give to others that are not and always have.

Did your mom send you money one Christmas to get the kids things for Christmas because you could not afford it?

Why when you knew that you could not afford to buy anything for the kids would you donate it and put it into savings? Stocking stuffers are cheap little things and are not really gifts to me. We don't spend much on them so I would have gotten a few $1 things and then a couple of gifts from Santa.

I understand that you believe in saving and spending but there are some times in life where you CAN spend and not feel guilty about it.
