We do something similar with our kids when they receive money for birthdays, etc. we encourage them to donate a portion, save a portion in the bank, and keep some in their piggy banks for little things that they might want to buy.

What business is it of yours how much she spent on their stocking stuffers?

Why did you say that it was for stocking stuffers? You did not say it COULD be used for that or something else. I still think if someone gave me money and said it was for something specific, I would spend the money on that and only that.

Just a question, at the time when you were struggling, did you still give tithe?

In some climates, not so much. In the NE US, sure.

I'm not sure why that is so hard to understand!

Well since they said they did not have the money for gifts and her mom gave her $100 for stocking stuffers and she then divided that $100 3 ways, it seemed like the kids were not getting much out of that $100 (as there were 4 of them).

It 's just the point again of how the money was supposed to be spent one way and how the kids didn't get much out of it as it was split 3 ways.

Because I wasn't very clear in the op about it.

Yes, my kids are 4 and 9 and I don't shop all the time for clothes, mostly when the seasons change. I will get all the clothes at one time and supplement inbetween with Christmas gifts, birthday gifts and Easter time when my mom likes to buy all the kids some clothes.
