Are you seriously comparing tithing to cable TV? Some people actually believe that tithing is not optional unless one is destitute. I can seriously respect that too, because it means they are very honest in their faith. I don't have a lot of respect for people who believe in things only when it's convenient.

God wants you to be wise with HIS money.

I was using that because in another thread we were speaking of not having cable if you could not save. You have missed alot of the other threads.

I understand tithing and I go to church and am religious but I do not believe that you should be giving to your church first until you are totally able to take care of your family.

And how is that? I don't think God wants you to struggle to the point that you have to decide heat over food (not saying you have done that) and still give to the church.

You know, I've wasted too much time on this thread.

I wouldn't know because I never as an adult just given money for no reason. Why would I be?

Actually giving a gift of money with strings attached as to how is should be spent is a control issue.

Why would she just hand me money? I am not understanding this. We take care of all our bills and my mom buys us things all the time but I can't see why she would just write a check or hand me cash for no reason.

The reason she gave ducky the money was that they needed it. For whatever she used it for, she knew they needed it. My mom knows we don't need the money and anything she gives is for a specific reason.

I know that, I was part of that thread. That doesn't mean that there is ANY comparison whatsoever.

I'm sure that she believes the same thing. If she could not afford food and shelter and heat and clothing, I'm sure she would not tithe during that period. But she COULD afford all of that stuff. She just couldn't afford all the materialistic crap you seem to think that people can't live without, like Christmas presents, brand new clothes, a big house, and cable TV. I'm gonna have to go with her on this one. Tithing wins over ALL of that stuff, if it is something you believe in.
