Maybe for Christmas or for your birthday.

She said she was continuing tithing even when they had to downsize their home. She couldn't afford things, that is the point

I hate to tell you but I live in a "starter" home as they call it and don't plan to move anytime soon. I do not have big expensive cars. I shop with coupons and sales all the time.

Yes, for Christmas and Birthday gifts, not for just any reason.

Why would she just give me money for no reason? I am not understanding.

I believe that everything belongs to God.

So because you've never been given money without there being a specific reason for how it should be spent, no one else ever is given money with absolutely no implication as to how it should be spent?

My parents have given us money "just because" on several occasions.

Because money for no reason is a gift, anything else is not. Did you not get any money when you got married? I thought people on LI gave money for everything?

I totally trust in God too and have been trying not to worry as much about things (just finished reading Joel Osteen's new book!).

I am not going to go into the tithing thing though as with the idea especially when people are doing it when they truly can not afford to, to basically keep their church up and running.

The reason she gave ducky the money was that they needed it.

She gave us a gift for Christmas.

My grandmother sends me around $200 every year for my birthday. It's a gift. She wants me to spend it on whatever the heck I want to. That's why they call it a gift.

No, not really. We have been given money to do things for our home but my parents never had money to just give to us for no reason. I understand what you are saying though as my grandparents did this in the past to basically "give out" their money so the kids would not get taxed on it when they died but my parents were already in their 50's by then. Once my parents were able to do things for us, they chose to give it to us for specific reasons and they were things that we would have done if we had the money.
