But that's just it, I'm really not much of a shopper. For someone like me, that leaves things like supermarket gift cards, or gas gift cards. I don't know about you, but I don't really think of things like that as all that special, even if it might be very nice to have someone think enough of me to give me any present at all. And I don't in any way need money for things like groceries or gas. I'm really not getting how it makes me Grinchy to just not be that into stuff at Christmas.

If someone gives you a gas card this year can you send it to me?

Yes. We. Did.

You do understand there is a significant difference between "not doing gifts" and "not doing Christmas?"

Perhaps it's not me at all...have you thought about that?

My husband and I don't exchange gifts on a regular basis. Not because of "cheapness" but because anything we want or need over the course of the year, we just buy, so giving gifts to each other is completely superfluous. We do, of course, give gifts when we go to a wedding, and most of the time we give a gift when we are invited to a wedding, whether or not we go.

When I've been given money and told to spend it on something (for example, a nice set of pots and pans most recently), the giver was more concerned that I would make a wise choice (i.e. put it in savings or pay off debt) than that I would make an unwise one had it not be given for a specific purpose. We didn't NEED new pots and pans, but boy was it thoughtful for my parents to give us that gift.

Careful, or we're going to be talking about charitable donations as gift, another whole topic...

Yeah, it is you. I have a mil JUST like you and for many years I thought I was the problem and could not understand why she did not like me as I had never had a problem with people before. Well once I met the rest of the family and they got know me out of the things my mil had told them about me, I had NO problem with anyone else except for her. You have soooo many charactistics of her. You are pushy and seem to bully people and for what reason, people will listen to you. Maybe they need friends, not sure as I have IRL friends and am not interested in getting together with people online. I can meet people in IRL.

After 19 years, my mil and I have FINALLY gotten along and you know why, because she told my dh and his sister that she really likes the way I stand up for myself now. She used me as a doormat for so many years, because I let her by not speaking up. I don't need to take it from her anymore and she knows it.
