I've had a couple. I admit they felt a little forlorn.

Cheapness. They would rather have the money in their savings accounts than to give to others. Hey, I am cheap too but not when it comes to certain things. Money is money. People are people. People come first. Ever hear Suze Orman?

Maybe stocking stuffers are cheap in your family! Not always in ours! One year my younger son got three autographed baseballs in his stocking. Not cheap. They often get games for their handhelds in their stocking. Not cheap.

My experience is the same as yours, sports apparel is the one thing that they want from year to year as they are also sports nuts.

I'd have no problem with a relative of mine not spending the whole $100 if the financial picuture was that bad. It would be smart to save a little in case you had to worry about paying the heat bill or food or something that would benefit the kids. That is hardly the same as spending the same $100 on your kids when given to you by a relative for Christmas when you are financially solvent and have money to spare.
