"You do know, don't you, that one can stand up for oneself without stomping everyone else down to teh ground?"

Hmmmm...maybe you could tell that to your friend then.

Which I why I didn't address the fiction and instead wished you peace and joy, which seemed the best course of action due to the nature and tone of the post.

"A Christmas stocking is an empty sock or sock-shaped bag that children hang on Christmas Eve so that Santa Claus can fill it with small toys, candy, fruit, coins, or other small gifts when he arrives. These small items are often referred to as stocking stuffers or stocking fillers. In some Christmas stories, the contents of the Christmas stocking are the only toys the child receives at Christmas from Santa Claus. Other presents are wrapped up in wrapping paper and placed under the Christmas tree. Tradition in western culture dictates that a child who behaves badly during the year will receive only a piece of coal."

Would it be a control issue if my mom had picked out the pots and gifted them instead of the money to buy them? In some ways, it's less controlling to gift the money, because then I have the choice of which pots and pans to buy. I'm just not seeing gifting money for a specific purpose as controlling. . .

Yes, I do. I just attended our church charge conference last week, where we approved the budget for the next year. Our denomination has one of the most cost-effective worldwide disaster relief funds in the world -- the United Methodist Committee on Relief. I could go on. I am quite satisfied with the work our church does both locally and globally, although there is always, always, always more to do.

<<Just like the other poster said, many people live off of that money VERY well that you believe is going to god. Do you honestly know where the money goes that you give? >>

Not in our church, the pastor and staff are not living VERY well.
