That didn't answer the question, why would it matter?

I agree. At the baby shower that was thrown for me when I was pregnant with Samantha, four or five people wanted to give me really practical gifts. They all settled independently on lotion, shampoo, and body wash. Definitely very practical and welcomed gifts-- but we're still using the body wash and lotion almost three years later. In fact, we don't use baby lotion very often, so I still have three or four bottles in the linen closet.

As for Starbucks, DH doesn't like going there-- even for hot chocolate and desserts. He has received several over the years as thank yous for the tutoring he does. He passed them on to me. I probably still have one in my wallet.

From a volunteer organization perspective, that is often not doable.

One must volunteer in order to know if volunteers in one's area generally receive gifts of appreciation. ;)

I will never get an AMEX or Visa card or other similar card. My mom got one from someone one year and had a horrible time trying to use up the money on it. She used the bulk of it for one item but then had an amount under $5 on it and tried to use it on something at a dept store. For some reason, they couldn't get the stupid thing to work b/c it was such a minimal amount. She tried it in several places all to no avail. She was so frustrated she gave up so it was a waste of several good dollars on the giver's behalf. You'd be better off giving the person cash.
