Phone Tree

ODSD's Homeroom has a phone tree, and they sent it home last night for proofreading. We were supposed to send back any corrections.

ODSD's entry is:

DH's 'First Name' + Surname & BM's 'First Name' + Surname
DH's Home Phone Number
ODSD's Name

Now, you can only have one phone entry per child, which is obviously our home number.

So, DH wanted to scratch out BM's name....not out of some "I AM the CP!" mentality, but b/c he thought that since it was HIS phone, it should just have HIS name, to avoid confusion. What confusion that would be, I have no idea. He also said since no one could ever possibly reach BM at our home phone number, it was silly to have her name on the sheet.

I disagreed and told him that the Phonetree list is not just for phone numbers, but also to know the names of the parents you will see at school, events, etc. Not that BM will be at many, but still.

Who was right?

BTW, that sucker DID go back uncorrected.

I think you both are. On the one hand, I wouldn't want the school calling my house asking for my ex, on the other, you're right about having the names of both parents. However, it is probably MORE important for the school to have both names than it is to just tell the caller that BM doesn't live at your house. That's more of an inconvience than anything else.

It should have your name. They want to know who will be answering the phone. If you will be answering the phone, it would be confusing for someone to see Jane on the list and then have Mary answer the phone.

We have a phone tree for work. We list everyone's SOs on it, but only for the numbers where the SO might answer. So if it's someone's cellphone and their SO never answers, they don't list them. For another co-worker, they list her son because he lives with her and might answer.

<school, events, etc.>>

I disagree. The phone directory is for that. The phone tree is for getting emergency info out.

If I were the type to be offended when someone calls my house asking for Mrs. BM, I would probably have scratched out the name.

Not BM's number, her name doesn't go on it as such. Phone tree is just that a phone tree not a whose who in the family.

Our school also allows only one entry into the directory/phone tree.

~~Inasmuch, this is all foreign to me. Our schools would never release phone numbers and address of students in the format of a directory, phone tree. They wouldn't take the time to get individual approval to include the kids which they would need in our school systems. I'm kind of thankful for that.~~

ODSD's entire grade consists of 18 students, so it's not as much of a hassle at her school.
