SM no longer able to avoid me.

As many of you know, I've only laid eyes on SM once in the last 10+ years. I wouldn't know her if she was standing on my front porch. This is completely due to effort on her part. And since BD has never taken responsibility for anything that he could throw the current (or past) wife under the bus for, I'm sure we each have the wrong idea about the other. BD slams SM to me, I can only assume he slams me to SM. In fact, I know that he claimed to anyone and everyone that would listen to him that I cheated on him, when he was the one that did the cheating.

Anyway, next year DS and his stepsister will not only be in the same school, they will be in band together. It is unlikely that she will be able to continue avoiding me...and I'm concerned that she is going to repeat the things I'm sure BD has said about me. Although, I know I can't avoid this.

Does anyone have any ideas how I should proceed in this situation. Is there anything I can do to get in front of this problem or should I just not worry about it?

If you are able, maybe becoming really involved as a band booster or in the parents' organization will make you such a fixture of respect around the school that she won't dare to trashtalk you.

Don't worry about it. For one, it is a year away. For two, it is possible for her to avoid you. Unless you are in a very small town, the school band is usually very large which means that the band booster or group of band parents will be large. If SM wants to avoid you, that is far better than being a drama queen or causing a scene. She may not be able to avoid being near you, but if it is her MO not to have any contact with you, she won't.

Cheerful and stupid. As sickeningly friendly as they are in the deep Georgia south. Honest to God, Meanie.

I forget everyone's sitch.

Personally? I wouldn't worry about it. Behave as you would with any stranger you'd meet in the context of the school and follow her lead. If she shows her ass, feel free to ignore her. If she can be civil and pleasant, no reason not to follow suit.

For me? I'd stick with a smile and a nod. If she seems receptive, I'd introduce myself and stick with normal pleasantries.
