I don't think it's necessarily that he doesn't want to do something without his wife, it's more that he was thinking (I think) that if he has to suffer (he doesn't see going to this particular event as *fun*), he wants to share the pain. :).

I think the better analogy would be DAD/SM are taking their preshi to the concert, but wont invite dads oldest kid. Is dad willing to help mom take his oldest.

Actually, I have given my DD some pretty hard to get hold of football and Baseball tix and told her she could take her dad.
