Hi,

I posted this on another brd too, but it doesn't appear to be very active.

It's time for me to head to the Dr to get my 12 yr old dd's vaccinations.

"Are some considered safer than others?"

Some of us feel that no vaccine is safe, but you will find people here who allow some vaccines but not others. What you will want to do is study the disease first. After you decide which disease you are most fearful of, then learn about the brands and names for the vaccines for just those diseases.

There's a good thread on this board to help you get started, I'll try to find it. It was started by Tash if anyone knows what I'm referring to.

Adacel is the Dtap

This is an A-Cellular version of the DPT which is the one that caused my brother to begin having seizures and was never the same since…within hours of the vaccine.

D - Diphtheria
t - Tetanus
aP - Pertussis is Whooping Cough

They don’t even know if the boosters work…

but they give them anyway.

Manatra

I read that and I get the impression your daughter is getting TWO shots for the same disease (Diphtheria). Adacel is also for Diphtheria. Maybe one of these more scientific minded ladies can explain to us what this part means:

“and W-135) Polysaccharide Diphtheria Toxoid Conjugate Vaccine”.

Here’s some more reading about Meningococcal -

http://www.fda.gov/cber/safety/gbs102006.htm

Well, seems they took it down. You’ll notice that anytime a write-up is less than flattering they take it down whenever they realize people have gotten their hands on it.

But you can always find a re-write that will put the vaccine/drug in a better light:

http://www.fda.gov/BiologicsBloodVaccines/SafetyAvailability/ucm154937.htm

You really have to read everything and ask yourself where the piece came from, who wrote it and what ties to the pharmaceutical companies he/she has. Sometimes you may not realize that a person making vaccine decisions for the entire country holds a heck of a lot of stock in pharmaceuticals. Mostly, you have to arm yourself with the knowledge that the MAJORITY of studies carried out --- are carried out (and paid for) by the pharma mafia themselves.

Who would have ever thought that this country would allow a person to create a vaccine and then sit on the approval committee for vaccines...but here we are.

I tried to find more about Manatra but it spurred a memory of reading about it and personally, I wouldn’t give it to my Dog if the government said it was “required”.

Sorry to be so blunt, but there’s a lot you don’t know. :)

If you’re interested in learning, get the book Randi suggested. All the gory details are laid out and backed up by references to peer-reviewed journals. It is not an anti-vaccine book, just a book of facts. Like Randi, when I first read it, I was simply reassured that all of my ramblings from the past few years were factual. Now I have the book whenever I need a reference to where a doctor or scientist can find the information I’m rambling about.

There's at least 13 strains of Meningococcal Disease. The vaccine (Menactra) is only designed for 4 strains - A, C, Y and W-135. The strain which is most virulent and which leads to the majority of deaths is B. The vaccine does not even protect you against Strain B. So when a medical professional leads you to believe that your child will be protected against Meningitis – he’s deceiving you. Whether he knows it or not – that’s another story. They are trained to memorize what to say to parents, and that’s what they do. I’m sure they would love to have all the answers, but they don’t and they often unintentionally mislead the parent without meaning to.

The vaccine doesn’t protect you against Viral Meningitis. It doesn’t even protect against all the Bacterial Strains – only four.

Your pediatrician may or may not know this. He/she is not always intentionally misleading, but none-the-less, they often are.

"Td is the tetanus and diptheria combo without the pertussis .."

That's what I thought, but then I got confused because it looks like she's getting two shots for Diphtheria (?). Surely not.

After posting I thought to myself "What a silly question" because that is what my son got, instead of the DtaP. He has not been vaccinated for Pertussis at all because that was what the doctors all blamed my brothers sudden "mental retardation" on. He only got the one Td, I never went back for boosters. The strange thing is that we were all exposed to pertussis recently - and no one got it. I was expecting us too, the kids were exposed to the sick kids in a museum for about four hours. But I have seen people *not* get a disease before, that's nothing new to me. I was certain the kids would get it, but so very glad they didn't. Each disease has it's own different incubation so I'm guessing each one has it's own window of infection too (?).
