I wouldn't get it, if the school I'm going to didn't make it mandatory to participate in clinical. Despite the fact that they sent out an email for a study that showed the flu shot to not be very effective.
As an adult, I would decline it b/c there are enough studies saying it makes to difference if you have it or not .. and studies favoring the vaccine are done on behalf of the pharmaceutical -- so of course they will find the vaccine to be effective. That - and out of principle, because if someone is telling me I have to have a medical intervention -- I would prefer to exercise my right to decline medical treatment. Unfortunately, in the school/clinical setting it's just not worth the fight. Best not to make waves.
My son, 19 months, did not have the flu shot last year and will not have it this year. For the same reason .. how effective is it? He's not in day care and doesn't go to school. I'm more afraid of RSV than the flu. He has no respiratory issues and has not even had a cold yet -- and I work in a hospital, I'm sure I bring home plenty of bugs, so.. I'm not afraid :)
