Okay, I've tried to do some research, but so much of what's out there is CDC/pharma driven, and I want to balance it out...
I'm nearly 6 mos pg and have a 2.5 y/o who will be starting preschool 1 day/week for 2 hrs next month. EVERYWHERE I look, it seems like everyone is pushing both of us toward getting it, though neither her pedi nor my OB has said word one about it. I spoke w/ a friend of mine who is in nursing school and is usually very knowledgeable and moderate about vaccinations, and she sent me a quick note telling me that we should both get it, but she'd explain why later.
I never get the flu vaccine and neither does DD. She gets vax'd but on a very modified schedule, and a selective one at that.
So my questions are: what are the statistics associated w/ H1N1? Is this an overblown panic? Is this any more serious than any other flu? I've read in places on this board that flu vaxes only perpetuate and spread the flu? How is that?
My inclination is that I will NOT be getting the vaccine while pg. They haven't had enough time to test the effects of the vaccine, and I am incredibly leery of vaccines that have been fast-tracked into mass production. I also would really rather DD not have it either, but with her starting preschool, I'm very leery about it. I'm also very worried about having a newborn in the very middle of 'flu season'...
Anyway, if you all could weigh in with thoughts and opinions (for or against, whatever it may be) I would appreciate it! TIA!!!
