The HPV Vaccine - what are your thoughts?

I wanted to see what everyone's opinions were with regards to the HPV vaccine.  For some reason, I just have a bad feeling in my mommy gut that I can't get rid of, so hence my boys have not had that vaccination.  I was talking about it with the pediatrician, who was fine with whatever I decided.   I don't have an issue with regards to what they are trying to prevent, I know how easily HPV is transmitted and realize that my boys will be having sex and at risk one day.  There is just something about the vaccination itself that I'm just not comfortable with, so I was hoping that I could get some opinions from others on their feelings/research.

Has your child/children been (or will be) vaccinated for HPV?

What are their ages?

What are your reasons for having/not having them vaccinated for HPV?

Even if there are some risks associated with the HPV vaccine, those risks would have to be worse than the risk of cancer, in order for me to refuse the vaccine for my daughter.

Thanks for your input, Tracy, I'll check out the link. Safe sex is very important for everyone, the concern comes into play in how HPV is transmitted. Condoms don't fully protect against it, and while I would like my children to only have one sexual partner in life, I know that's not realistic. I'm glad that my boys all seem a bit behind when it comes to girls, I still have some time to research it further and really think about it.

My ODD will be 18 next week and we have not vaccinated her for it, and don't plan to.  At the time it came out, she was just old enough but i was not happy with the history of it and no long term studies on it being administered on such young kids.  Once she turns 18, it is up to her to research and decide if she wants to get it herself and I would not oppose her decision as long as I know she researched it and came to it on her own.  I personally have read this article and all of the supporting research that went into it, and as of right now, my younger two will not get it either.  I will continue to educate my kids on safe sex practices.
