It's flu shot time...

And my least favorite part of flu season? All the vaccination hype.
Last year, because it was my daughter's first time in public school (after being at home with me all her life, no daycare) I decided I would get the family flu shots, even though we usually don't. I know how many bugs kids get their first year of school, and I knew I didn't have time to be sick. So, flu shots for almost everyone. Ironically, my oldest didn't end up getting one... we just never got around to it.
Fast forward about a month... and we managed to catch some kind of flu superbug. My youngest got it first; we took her to the doctor to have it confirmed as flu (it was.) Then... my husband. Then me.
The real irony?
My oldest daughter, the one we didn't vaccinate, didn't get sick at all.
I know it wasn't the flu vaccine that made us sick; in addition to it being an inactivated version, the incubation period was too long. But geez louise...It was the worse bout of flu I've ever had.
This year, we won't be bothering. We never have before, and rarely have problems (we're not out and about much in the fall, and we're compulsive handwashers) and didn't have problems, I'm so not bothering this time.
What about you? Do you get the flu shot?
