Jenny McCarthy rips Amanda Peet over vaccinations

Former Playboy Playmate Jenny McCarthy and actress Amanda Peet are publicly feuding over the safety of childhood vaccines. Who says there's nothing sexy about inoculations?

Their dispute revolves around the belief among some parents of children with autism—including McCarthy —that certain vaccines may trigger the disorder, although scientific research has shown no evidence of any link.

Peet, a mother and advocate for childhood vaccinations, said in a recent magazine interview that parents who don't vaccinate their children because of autism fears are "parasites."

That made McCarthy very angry, almost as angry as the people who paid to see her recent movie "Witless Protection," in which she starred alongside Larry the Cable Guy.

In an article published Wednesday in Spectrum Magazine, McCarthy said Peet "has a lot of balls to come forward and be on that side, because there is an angry mob on my side. I like the fact that I can say she's completely wrong."

Peet apologized for her word choice but called it irresponsible to suggest that groups like the American Academy of Pediatrics are engaged in a massive coverup of harmful vaccines.

McCarthy said in the article released Wednesday that the American Academy of Pediatrics "sucks."

Too bad the Wall Street bailout debate is devoid of celebrity combatants. Just imagine how spicy it would be if Heidi Klum was ripping Kate Hudson for her stance on credit default swaps.

Me-OW!

I agree with you and I think most women would see it that way. The men's replies on that board spoke otherwise. It is unreal what a big portion were saying! But I don't know a lot about any celebrity so it was just shocking to read the replies. And - the replies could have been written by boob-jealous women, or boob-job-jealous, whatever the case, lol. I guess I was more irritated that people would take the time to post anything there when they had nothing meaningful to say, but it's listed in the ENTERTAINMENT section so there ya go!

Hey Dee,

You're right, every kid is so different.

"She would be much better off keeping quite, but I understand the anger too."

I don't think Jenny should stay quiet by any stretch of the imagination. I understand her anger too but it's off-putting to a lot of people and I think she could stand to tone it down.

I still nominate for Jamie for spokesperson!

Depends on where you got the lab numbers from and who as far as I am concerned.

I think I would've said - ok, I've done it, still not working, now what? (When she suggested unplugging everything and trying again.) I'm sure I would have let her know before AND after just how stupid that was! But, if you think about it, she's probably just reading steps off a piece of paper. Might even be halfway around the world! At least, that's been my experience in the past.

SERIOUSLY - now that is a great idea! I would love to see her stand face to face with some of the goons at the CDC!

When they were BellSouth, the Customer Service workers were in India. Now they are AT&T, it's the only choice for phone service we have out here in the boonies. I am NOT nice when A CSR doesn't speak plain English. I have A LOT of experience with Middle-Eastern accents, many of my clients were from India and Iran. I figure if I can't understand them then they should not hold CSR jobs for US customers. It's frustrating enough when I speak to a person from Maine, and I have a very southern accent...they can't understand a WORD I say! So I can understand both sides of the frustration - but still, if you can't be understood by American's, it's time to find a different job!

I wouldn't know who Amanda Peet was if she was standing right in front of me right now. I heard the name for the first time when I got into it with the geeks at Science Based Medicine. I just don't know celebrities names, hardly know their faces. Hearing her call me and my child a parasite was all I needed to know about her :) That makes me wanna slap her!
