Jenny McCarthy rips Amanda Peet over vaccinations

Former Playboy Playmate Jenny McCarthy and actress Amanda Peet are publicly feuding over the safety of childhood vaccines. Who says there's nothing sexy about inoculations?

Their dispute revolves around the belief among some parents of children with autism—including McCarthy —that certain vaccines may trigger the disorder, although scientific research has shown no evidence of any link.

Peet, a mother and advocate for childhood vaccinations, said in a recent magazine interview that parents who don't vaccinate their children because of autism fears are "parasites."

That made McCarthy very angry, almost as angry as the people who paid to see her recent movie "Witless Protection," in which she starred alongside Larry the Cable Guy.

In an article published Wednesday in Spectrum Magazine, McCarthy said Peet "has a lot of balls to come forward and be on that side, because there is an angry mob on my side. I like the fact that I can say she's completely wrong."

Peet apologized for her word choice but called it irresponsible to suggest that groups like the American Academy of Pediatrics are engaged in a massive coverup of harmful vaccines.

McCarthy said in the article released Wednesday that the American Academy of Pediatrics "sucks."

Too bad the Wall Street bailout debate is devoid of celebrity combatants. Just imagine how spicy it would be if Heidi Klum was ripping Kate Hudson for her stance on credit default swaps.

Me-OW!

The link in the first post in this thread will take you to the article, but not the comments. The above link is the article and the comments.

I notice a lot of vaccine debates get moved or suddenly disappear...like my post in the other thread about the flu - it's very strange! It used to be only the CDC and AAP stuff that got moved around or disappeared...now it's happening a lot it seems.

Thank you for bringing this up. I would like to see this 'proof' that there is a link too.

Do I believe that any pharmaceutical or government sponsored study is telling 100% the truth? No. Working in pharma advertising and seeing studies and all data first hand, if it's sponsored by a pharama company, data can be skewed.

Do I think American Academy of Pediatrics is telling the full story? No. The risk of not vaccinating your children is higher than the autism link. But I do think that they should support open minded schedule adjustment and/or separating the dosages instead of an all in one injection.

We have a friend who hates Western medicine. She already cornered my husband twice about "DO NOT vaccinate your children." It really, really, REALLY made me mad. Unsolicited advice regarding vaccinations, pacifiers, day care and how horrible I am for doing so,

"No. The risk of not vaccinating your children is higher than the autism link."

I don't agree with that at all. I know at least 150 non vaccinated children. They are at risk for all these very rare diseases (so are some of the vaccinated children, by the way). When, and if, they catch one of the diseases, they will most likely survive it just like billions and billions of people have for thousands and thousands of years.

When ONE out of that 150 (that I know personally) dies from a vaccine-available disease, I'll let you know. We took a poll at our co-op this morning. At least 35 children there have not had a single vaccine. The other 10 kids had a vaccine until the parent noticed a difference in their child just after vaccination and then stopped all vaccines. Those 10 are diagnosed as Autistic. There is no ADD or ADHD or Autism or other neuro. disorders among those 35. There was one child there who has had all his vaccines and shows no signs of any neuro disorders. He is 16 years old so his list of vaccines was pretty short in comparison to today's schedule.

If you hear stories that tell how 1 in EVERY 150 non-vaccinated children die or become disabled or damaged neurologically in ANY way - I would really be grateful to you for sharing that information. Until then, it's a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned.

So far, in all the years I've done this (about 12 on and off), I have met very few people who say their child was not vaccinated but has Autism. Judi is one of the few. I think she and the others should start a website so the whole world can see exactly how many non vaccinated children have Autism. I know I'm not the only one looking for this. I also know that Judi firmly believes her stand, and I believe that she believes this with all her heart. I am not disputing her claims, just wish we had more proof either way. This would certainly offer proof that so many parents desperately seek and would put a lot of people at peace. That is probably the only convincing I would accept because my Mother took my perfectly normal brother in for a vaccine and his life (as well as ours) was changed forever - with only one shot, he was never the same again.

And "separating the dosages" would put more preservatives in. Mercury is still used, but the amount is only a "trace" amounts now - except of course the flu vaccine. For that one, you have to request a mercury free pediatric dose. It is too expensive to make the vaccine without it I guess - and we certainly wouldn't want those pharma companies to spend extra money, all for the benefit of safety! Gee, their stocks might drop a penny if they did that!

I respectfully disagree with your opinion, but this IS a debate board, so that's what we're going to do here.

"Pushing advice like vaccines, binkies, etc. is just wrong."

Some people should just wear a t-shirt that says "No advice please, I know it all. There's no lie I won't succomb to...please don't throw truth's my way - I prefer lies, hearsay and group-speak!"
