Lurker with a question on MMR

I've done a bit of research on vaccinations and I know that there are some who believe there is a causal relationship between the MMR vaccine and autism. I recently put off having my 13 month old DS get his MMR so that I could look into it a bit more. I've heard a lot of people say that they were "postponing" the vaccination(s) until their child was older.
My question is what does such a postponement accomplish? If there is a causal relationship, why would that change with the child's age? Or is there some reason a younger child is more susceptible than an older child?
Thanks; I appreciate your feedback!
