Are there any moms on here who might have had the flu vaccine while pregnant? I am particularly curious about moms who did AND have children diagnosed with any form of autism or developmental delays.
It seems that while thimerosal has been banned from vaccinations in general, it is still allowed in the flu vax (both injectable and nasal.) Unless one specifically requests the thimerosal-free vax, the standard dose contains the mercury- based preservative. I cannot find much info regarding the impact of this on a developing fetus, but it troubles me a great deal. Considering that the byproducts, thus neurotoxicity, can linger for a year+, it seems that the fragile fetal system could take a very real hit during development in utero and beyond.
Any thoughts or are there any links to similar discussions/pertinent studies?
Thanks,
Roxane

Reading that doesn't change my post.
Wow, Karin, that is a scary story!
That sounds awful. I'm so sorry to hear you had to go through it. I can't respond to all that because I know nothing of Asthma or steroids or nebulizers. I didn't recall the OP saying she had Asthma, I hope she's healthy and doesn't have any conditions like Asthma.
My newborn had pneumonia, she looked sickly for one day, and acted normal after that day and one dose of antibiotic. I can still remember how awful she looked when I took her to the doctor. The next day she perked up and seemed to be much better. I can not even imagine being pregnant and having pneumonia, I've never had it. On top of it all Asthma too??? It sounds terrible.
Was that when you first started getting the shots? I guess our personal experiences weigh more than anything else, huh? I remember the first time I read about the shot causing the flu. I argued with my husband every year, and it took skipping the flu shot ONE year to convince him. He skipped one year of getting the shot, it was one year out of 5 that we did not get the flu.
Yes, that's when I started getting the shots.
Any infection during pregnancy can cause problems in the fetus.
I'm wondering about the schizophrenia link....Since the researchers seem to think that it's something about the body's immune response to the flu, rather than the flu itself, that causes the increased risk of schizophrenia, wouldn't the vaccine (which causes the body to have an immune response,) also be linked to an increased risk?
Heehee...I'm apparently the queen of the run-on sentence this evening!
Yes, I was thinking the same thing! Just didn't think you'd be the one to say it, LOL!
Why am I still awake?!
