Good luck to you!

I trusted the CDC and FDA when I first started researching so I say first - research the ingredients in the baby products you'll get at your shower(s). But be prepared to get a little angry. Then when you learn that the government (FDA) doesn't care about your health - then your research will have meaning.

I second Neil Miller's book. He backs up every word with peer reviewed science. You should also note that the pro-vaccine people, including your doctors, will tell you that there are all these studies which prove vaccines are safe. They lie. There are no long-term studies which prove safety or efficacy. If you are given a study that is supposed to prove either, then find out who funded that study, who designed it, and who carried it out. That is where you will learn that the ONLY studies which put vaccines in a positive light are funded and carried out by those with financial conflicts of interest...and even those are less than definitive.

I would also suggest steering clear of anything mentioning Offit or Wakefield. It's nothing more than a smokescreen designed to confuse you, so if you avoid them, you can be less confused. It is a very time consuming process though, so don't think you can do this research and come to a studied conclusion in just a few months. Nor will a few months prepare you for what your trusted doctor will throw at you.

Go back a year, maybe two, on this board and you will find proof of what I'm saying. Stack that against what little the opposition has offered and its very telling...If you stack the papers up, my side will be stacked up to the ceiling. Their side? *Might* make it as high as an inch of stacked papers, and that's using thicker paper ;). That is comparing actual published literature. I don't include opinion pieces at all. It will serve you well to learn the differences - another mistake I made in the beginning. Which is why one kid was vaccinated until he got the chickenpox, right after getting the vaccine for chickenpox.

Be prepared to hear a lot of lies - A LOT of lies. My delivery nurse tried to tell me that my daughter would die if she caught the chickenpox, not possibly, not maybe - but "WOULD DIE". Those were the words she used. That just mighta worked if only I hadn't survived the chickenpox myself! But now all three of my kids has had the chickenpox and they all lived through it, just like billions before them did. I suppose though, that my stepson had the wild strain. My youngest two may have had the wild strain or they may have had the vaccine strain, it's really difficult to know, since no one has been looking into it, regardless of the fact that they KNOW the chickenpox vaccine sheds!

Inside Vaccines is an excellent source of good common sense based logic.

Ask lots of questions. Here is a great place to start, I won't be around much but some of these posters are very well versed in the science of it all, unlike myself who researched for years and *still* vaccinated my child. He has severe seasonal allergies and I blame that on vaccines - wish I could take it all back now but you can't UNvaccinate. I'll choose a self-limiting disease which lasts a few weeks, over the lifetime sicknesses caused by vaccines ANY day.

Oh - and one more thing...chickenpox, measles and mumps are not fatal. Even the CDC said so, many years back. Today they will try to make you believe that there are new *killer* strains out. The only thing "killer" about today's chickenpox, measles and mumps are the ER doctors who are not taught to handle the disease.
